Hello all,

This is my first post on this site and 2nd year pool owner. I've switched to liquid bleach and stopped using tablets about a week ago. My FC is around 5 (DPD test) but my CYA is around 100 (test strips).(See below on why i don't have a better test kit.). My pool is crystal clear right now. Is this because of the lower temperatures and low pool water temperatures at the moment? Low to mid 70's and 70 degree pool water. Should i expect to have problems as the temperatures rise?

Probably.

Guess-strips aren't going to tell you how much *over* 100 your CYA really is. A OTO chlorine test tops out at 5ppm, which is way too low for your CYA so you won't be surprised I guess if the pool greens up on you in a while.

You can either buy more bleach or do a partial drain/refill to lower your CYA level.

Here is a reference for you- [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

Otherwise we're happy to have you join us and hope you'll find help here.

Thanks. I had a metal problem last week which was got me started on this forum in the first place. My stairs stained and the pool water turned emerald green. I did the Vitamin C process which turned the water back to cystal clear and stain on stairs disappeared. Since my chlorine levels bottomed out, i figured it was a good time to switch my practices and start fresh. Could this also be a reason why the water is so clear? I am gradually upping my chlorine dosage but read i shouldn't slam for a couple weeks.
