Concrete pool backfill

After some advice, our pool was dug just before heavy rain and then extra forming out it. They managed to concrete it but as it was over dug there are huge cavities behind the pool walls.

The builder said backfilling with the dirt they took out is fine. It’s clay soil.

My question, is it ok to backfill a concrete inground pool with clay soil if there is still a lot of water in the gaps? I don’t want to damage the walls down the road.

Providing the gunite shell is thick enough and shot correctly, it should be pretty robust. Backfilling with soil should be fine - the soil should displace the water, but give it time to settle before doing the decking.
