I need to reorder a test kit. In the meanwhile I took a water sample to pool store (I should know better, please be gentle) and found metals in water at 2.7. My pool water was completely clear. I added Pool Magnet Plus then added sparkle up, per instructions at 6pm in Friday. By Saturday 8am I couldn’t see the bottom of pool. I’ve backwashed twice since. This morning I still can’t see the bottom in deep end and I noticed an area of white powder in shallow end, which I’m wondering if this is the sparkle up, it’s also on the steps. Help!!! Should I brush the white powder or vacuum it up? Do I just need to be patient? The Pool Magnet Plus says it may cause temporary cloudiness but what does that mean? I’m going out of town in a few days and panicking. My filter has been running 24/7 since. Thank you.

Well ...... you did ask us to be gentle ..... so ....:rant::blah::blah: There, I said it. :) Now you do realize you need a Taylor K-2006C test kit right? They are tougher and a bit more expensive up there unless you travel south and can have it delivered there. But that really is step #1. Everything else you mentioned from pool store testing to pool potions and cures in a bottle are just wasting your money. There simply is no substitute for algae control other than chlorine in the "proper" amount. By now you obviously have an algae problem, so you'll need to perform a TFP "SLAM" link below. But to do a SLAM, you need the right test kit.

As for metals, it's funny you mentioned an iron number of 2.7, but your FC test was 2.7 as well. Is that correct?
