Closing with "Old Style Anthony Skimmer"

I will be trying to close myself for the first time this year. My pool has two skimmers; one of the skimmers is apparently an "old style anthony skimmer." The skimmer is connected to the main drain, and I can rotate a plastic valve piece to adjust the amount that is pulled from the main drain and the skimmer. To seal off the main drain, you have to reach down into the skimmer pipe with a plug at the tip of your fingers. Then you apply another plug above that to seal off the skimmer.

My question is, how do I go about winterizing this system, namely the main drain? Even with everything else plugged off, I'm guessing that air blown from the pump will never make it out the drain and will instead escape through the skimmer. If I plug the top skimmer hole, I supposed I could force air out from the main drain, but then to plug the main drain I would have to quickly unplug the skimmer, and reach down in with a different plug to plug the main drain. By the time I would do this, the water from the main drain would surely have pushed back through up into the piping.

What am I missing? Is there a better way to do this?

Your missing the propriety skimmer / md plug.

OK. I ordered a couple of these double plugs in varying spacings so that I hopefully get the ones that fits. I figure if I can get air blowing out the main drain, I can quickly drop the double plug into position after air is blowing out the main drain to create an air lock. This would leave me with no way to put antifreeze into the lines for that skimmer, though, which seems problematic. Any solutions to this?

My next question is -- what should I use to blow sufficient air through the system? It looks like the cyclone is the best bet, compared to a shop-vac or an air compressor, but the large hose it uses is not the type that I could just hook into the drain plugs on the pump. Does this mean, with a cyclone, I would need to blow out the lines from the other skimmer that is not directly connected with the main drain? If that right, how do I blow out that skimmer? It seems like the right approach is to blow the air from somewhere on the equipment deck, not through the skimmer itself, but I've never done this before so am mostly clueless.
