I wanted to share this as I encountered a similar problem to another thread but it is dead so I'm just bringing it to a top level thread for visibility. In the original thread the owner returned the SWG to the manufacturer and had to wait without a functional SWG. Hopefully this thread will save others the long turnaround time for a simple fix.
Equipment: Circupool Universal40 SWG
Installed: April 2022
Issue Date: August 2022
The SWG began making a loud (could hear it through a concrete block wall) humming or whirring sound that seemed to spin up on start and slow down when turned off. When I removed the cover I could see that the sound corresponded to the fan spinning up and slowing down and the sound appeared to be coming from the fan. I removed the 4 screws holding the fan in place and turned it back on and did not hear the sound. I noticed that the fan is mounted to the housing over a vent to external air with a mesh screen 'sandwiched' between the fan and vent opening. The mesh screen became loose over time and the fan blades were rubbing against the mesh screen. I was able to remount the fan with the 4 screws and back-off 2 of the screws a quarter turn and that was enough to prevent the sound. If the sound reoccurs in the future I think I will remove the screen from inside the housing and reattach it to the outside of the housing with some glue or similar.
If you experience the same problem the sound is largely just annoying and probably safe for a few days until you can open the case and resolve. This could be the difference between a clean pool and a green one.
