Chlorine or Bromine

After several months of trying to balance the water chemistry I uncovered a tub of Bromine tablets in the pool house???!!!
I had assumed with all the shock tablets and dichlor tablets the previous owners had left that it was a chlorine pool and I am now unsure if my pool is Bromine or Chlorine.
Is there a simple way to find out?
Is there any major difference in system BBB

Intresting question. I only know a buddy of mine bought a pool and went to shock it with chlorine, and it turned BLACK (well, close to it) (He drained it and started over). Other than having a good test kit, don't know how you would tell?

Yes if it's bromine, and you add liquid chlorine shock, you would see a spike in the test, and then a rapid drop due to sunlight. Is there a separate spa it could have been used in?

I read a post on the forum about a guy who was converting, and after awhile he added some CYA and is using straight liquid and is treating the pool like a chlorine pool and it seems to be working.

I'm in the process of converting an indoor pool from bromine to chlorine and that method seems to be working for me. The CYA (20ppm) that I added a few weeks ago is keeping the FC levels more consistently steady and I'm pretty confident whatever bromine that was in there is gone or almost gone.
