Chlorine and UV.

I have a pool with a chlorinator and UV light. I take my water to the pool store to be checked and it's always really low on chlorine. Of course they sell me stuff to get me chlorine back to proper levels which never works. After reminding them I have UV, they said they don't know anything about that. I contend that I shouldn't have high chlorine levels. Would like to hear some thoughts about this. My water is sparkling clear.

HEY!!!! Welcome to TFP!!

Probably the best place to start is with this (click the link) --> Pool Care Basics

Outdoor pools typically do not use UV systems. Usually only ponds, or drinking water sanitation. I had one too and ended up removing it. The pool gets plenty of UV from the sun. More information about UV that you may want...

In pools, you need enough sanitizing chlorine levels to kill bacteria and algae. To do that you need to maintain a high enough Free Chlorine (FC) level for the level of CYA (cyanuric acid) in your pool. Part of the pool care basics, but worth a note. See here --> FC/CYA Levels

Glad you are here, we are happy to help!

Thanks for your reply. I failed to mention we have a automatic pool cover. So sunlight is limited to when we are using it. I'm sure that places into the equation.
