It's that time of season in our area. We have farm fields on all sides of our property. Between hay bails, corn, soybean, etc... there's a constant dust haze in the air as equipment is running.

Will be closing pool in next week or so but also looking ahead to next season when the tractors are running full steam again. Is SeaKlear chitosan 1oz weekly treatment acceptable during plow season? Appears that is the only chemical others have said ok to use (outside of BBB/MA) if the circumstances dictate.

I have unused bottle from earlier this year for an issue that ended up not using. With my chemistry balance I haven't had to add a single chemical in over a month (added some chlorine after heavy swim load party to save SWG hours). My pool math only reports low CH (190) which I ignore. Filter hasn't budged 5% above baseline.

Thoughts?

Like all clarifiers, you have to be careful. Chitosan is certainly not the worst of the bunch BUT ... you have a cartridge filter ... so any clarifier could easily turn into a gummy, sticky mess that will be hard to remove from the pleated filter material. I would say that if you have the money you should buy a new filter element that is your "good" filter and keep the old one for the times of the year when you know your filter is going to get hit with lots of debris. Then only use the clarifier with the "bad" filter. If you had a sand filter or a DE filter, it wouldn't matter much because you can easily backwash them to get the junk out. But cartridges need more care or else you can trash them very easily.
