Cheap Calcium Chloride?

I just added 54lbs of calcium chloride as needed post Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. I was desperate and bought it from that pool store that will not be named (rhymes with stresslies) and it cost me an arm-and-a-leg. I know don't say it, but I was desperate. Where do y'all buy Cal Chlor to feel less fleeced? Also, how long can a plaster pool go with really low Calcium levels before it starts compromising the plaster? A week? A month?

I think I may know the place you're talking about. It is actually where I buy mine from, they are the cheapest in town. Make sure to ask for the bulk bag of calcium chloride, not their brand of hardness Plus. A 50lb bag cost me about $30, a 45 lb bucket would have cost me almost $70.

Wow! I paid a lot... I mean a lot more than that for 50lbs. I had to buy 2-15lbs and 3~8lbs and it was pricey. Do you have to be a pool pro to get 50lbs for $30?

Lowes sells calcium chloride ice melt 50lb bags for 20 bucks. Special order and ship to store for free.

I always thought the deicers had other chemicals in them that you do not want in your pool. Is my thinking wrong?

Some of them do, for instance Road Runner brand:

Road Runner is one of our most popular brands. The combination of Calcium Chloride pellet, Magnesium Chloride pellet and Sodium Chloride makes Road Runner a fast acting ice melt at a reasonable price

You want all or mostly Calcium Chloride, some NaCl is ok but you don't want it to be a large percentage. The brands listed in the article pooldv posted are good, always read the label though!
