Calcium Deposits Need Some Advice

Been on the site now about 4 years and have maintained our pool the whole time. Pool is 13 years old and was not maintained well by previous owner, we have owned for 4 years. Have kept the water balanced over the 4 years but am tired of the calcium staining on the walls and floor. Pool was originally a medium blue color but over the years turned "baby" blue in most areas, I assume from calcium. Have read multiple posts about no drain acid wash, Scaletec, Beautec etc. Considering dropping PH down to around 6 as we are currently using almost everyday. Poured 50/50 diluted MA over the top step on one end and brushed lightly, the pretty blue color returned so fairly sure this is just long term calcium buildup, no other staining and no rough deposits, just dis-colored. Have searched lots of old posts but looking for the best option currently.

Thanks in advance for any input.
Love the site, saved me lots of $$$

Hello and welcome to TFP! I suppose you've already seen the TFP Pool School - Calcium Scaling page? Well, in short, you have a couple options. You can of course drain and do an acid wash, or you can let time and a lower "CSI" level (see the poolmath calculator) allow the more acidic water conditions to slowly dissolve the calcium from the pool's shell. It's slow and tedious, and the acidic conditions can cause some problems to exposed metal over time, but if you're not in a hurry it can show improvement. Remember that CH, TA, and especially pH effect the CSI level of your pool and its ability to generate scale or in your case .... help remove it. So adjusting your CSI to a more negative range for a few months with continuous brushing may help slowly turn that situation around. Take a look and let us know if you have questions. Nice to have you with us.
