Broken U Brackets

Our Intex above ground pool (15,000 gal above ground pool, sand/saltwater filter, Intex model ECO20110, 16’x32’x52”, installed summer of 2014) was almost 6 years old. We have had no problems with it. About a month ago, the U brackets broke on our pool. We originally put 12”x12” concrete pavers under the brackets. If our pool was not level from day one, it might have been no more than an inch off after we filled it up. The brackets broke on the low side of the pool with more weight at this end.

We have already gotten a newer version of the same pool (Intex 26373EH, 16’x32’x52”). We have someone who will level the ground this time, and we are going to use masonry sand instead of bank sand.
We have reviews that are mixed on what to put under the brackets. Some have suggested that Intex recommends that we put ¾” treated plywood under the brackets.

We are looking for any suggestions on what to put under the U brackets this time. (Pictures are attached.)

Thank you for your help!

I used 4 inch thick pavers and mine have held up great. I've only had mine up for a year but so far so good. Also used compacted "choke" under the pavers. I spent have more time on ground prep and level than I did putting up the actual pool.
