Due to age and sun exposure my sight glass shattered during last backwash and left the threaded end in place. How to get that sucker out? I read an older thread about this issue and tried all suggestions with no luck. I then 
decided to use a very small, but rigid automotive pick tool. I gently tapped it into the plastic glass enough to get some leverage and it snapped right out. Hope this method will help someone else and save you some time.
