Bad odor coming from Slide after opening

Hello,

I had my pool company close my pool last year and they opened it this year. I was out there with them and when we turned the valve (see picture, located just to the right of the pump) to turn the slide on a bad odor came out for the first minute or so. Was this due to them not winterizing it correctly last year? Also, now the only way I can stop water from coming down the slide is to turn off the valve that is on the pipe coming up the ladder of the slide, see picture. Last year, when I turned the valve off near the pump, the slide would shut off completely but now there is a small continuous dribble of water. Could the water have frozen in the pipe and ruined the seal of the valve?

Also, as you can see in the picture my Pentair FNS filter has a leak around where the clamp is. It appears when they closed the lid the seal did not sit right as well as the bolt was not tightened as it should be. I tightened it but it continues to leak so they are coming out today to look that over.

Thanks for any guidance,

Greg

The valve at the equipment pad can be opened up (you just remove the 6 screws) and the seals can be inspected for damage. If the equipment was properly winterized, then freeze damage should be minimal. The smell was probably for stagnant water left in the line. I would thoroughly inspect the ground where that line runs to and from the equipment pad - if it was not winterized properly, there could be damage to it. Any leaks should show up with use of the slide.

The filter should be opened, the lid gasket removed, cleaned, lubed with 100% silicone and reseated. The band clamp is fully tightened when the locking spring is fully compressed. There should be no need to tighten it any further.

JoyfulNoise,

Thanks for the information. Pool company who closed it came out and said the valve was installed backwards (a different company did the installation of the slide). They changed it to the correct way, now there is no issue with the slide leaking water when the valve is in the off position.
