Andy @ Inyo Pools hooked me up!

Went out this morning and found my water level was about 4" low overnight :brickwall:

I noticed a few days ago there was water sitting where my selector rests for the varying choices and thought.. uh ohh, I bet my past abuses of not turning my handle in the same direction over the last 3 seasons is coming back to haunt me, well this morning water was flowing ever so beautifully out my discharge hose and apparently all night long.

I turned off my pump, put selector in Winterize (only one that wouldn't leak, was hoping to at least keep recirculate going) and remembered I got a discount offer with my Bronze sponsorship to TFP.

I called up Inyo seeing as they are recommended on the site, talked with Andy, he went over my choices, answered all my questions and in the end got me all taken care of and my replacement part/s will be here tomorrow!

Thank you Andy and thank you Inyo Pools for the great service!!

I got my savings and great service.

I say hooked me up, my order was right at the threshold, Andy worked his magic and then did me 1 better. Will definitely call them again WHEN I need something else.

We're glad to hear that Inyo did a great job. We like Inyo Pools and they like us. But, to be clear they are not a TFP sponsor. TFP is 100% funded by member donations.

Here is a recent quote from Dave,TFP owner, in this post, Re: INYO Pools Supplies.

INYO pools is not a sponsor (financially) of TroubleFreePool. What we have found is that they tend to specialize in some of the same things we do....i.e. DIY folks.

Our experience with them has been quite good so we have begun suggesting people give them a try.

They do "sponsor" TFP in that they give some nice perks should you decide to become a supporter of TFP.

Re: Andy @ Inyo Pools hooked me up! Key Assembly Replacement with Pics

Ok here are some pics of this repair

Andy threw in the Magic Lube for me

Installation was a breeze

Remove these screws
Screws in Key cover.jpg

I used a flat head screwdriver and GENTLY created some separation and the assembly lifted straight up

Reinstall the New assembly (there is a notch that ensures you only install it correctly)

Press firmly in the center and straight down to seat the assembly and O-ring, it is a nice snug fit.

Finger tighten screws, then go in a crisscross pattern (similar to how you would do your wheels on your car) NOT tightening all the way down on the first round. I completed my assembly over 2 passes and 1 final check, so 3 passes in total.

After screws are tightened down, I spun the Key around (in the same direction this time lol) about 10 times.

I could not believe how effortlessly it turns! Not sure if that is the lube or new parts or combination of both, but the Key assembly I replaced took a lot of effort to move between positions.

Started up pump and leak check

No leaks, pressure stable

Repair complete.

Total cost of this repair with my discount for being a Bronze sponsor of TFP & OVERNIGHT Shipping was $112, pool down time (no filter running) 1 day. Told ya, Andy hooked me up. (Could I have gotten it cheaper on Amazon which I am a Prime member? Yes, A few bucks but the ad listed was vague (poor advertisement) & getting the right advice, the right parts and fixing it the first time = Priceless).

The gamble for me as I saw it was, get the wrong parts and start increasing the risk of an Algae outbreak exponentially. No Thanks, the Bleach/chlorine cost and time to SLAM was an easy trade off for the $20 bucks (less shipping) I would have saved on parts.

As you can see by the timestamps of my post. Including unpacking, tool round up and picture taking, it took approx 20mins start to finish.

Hope this helps someone in the future,

FunandSun, Thanks so much for the detailed review that is awesome and so helpful to many people. This is a quite common repair that many people have questions about. If you ever need any help with your pool in the future please let us know.

Thank You

How difficult a repair is that? I asked a local pool store about changing my gasket as there seems to be a persistent small leak to waste.
Their suggestion was to put a ball valve on the waste port to block the leak.
Because it was risky to take the valve apart and it would then cost the cost of a new filter.

What kind of filter do you have?

A Hayward, looks just like the one pictured in this thread. Don't know the exact model off hand
.

Looks like an S2xx series. Same valve on most, just different size sand capacity.

Is the valve "like buttah" now? Recently replaced a Hayward S244 for multiple reasons and was quite pleased at not having to horse the valve handle around anymore!
