I just set up my first pool. It is 14 foot and 3 & 1/2 tall. My kids want to start swimming now. I am not sure what all I need to do first.Water is In and filter is running. I bought a test kit, now what?
Two things:
1) Test the pH. If it's not between 7.2 & 7.8 it will need fixing or eyes may sting. It won't do any permanent damage if you don;t- they already bathe in the same source water, but nonetheless it should be right.
2) Add 1¼ cups of standard clorox bleach to sanitize it. Dribble it in front of the return so it disperses fast, then hustle the kids inside and get them changed and slathered with sunscreen and by the time they're ready to get in, the chlorine will be mixed.
You'll want to do some reading in poolschool. Before too long, you'll want to add some stabilizer to protect the chlorine from the sun, and perhaps immediately you'll have to deal with pH. These links will help you understand what you just read, and tell you what chemicals to use to do what and how to add them and how to figure out how much to add.
