Does any one know if Black Walnut trees make good burning wood ? Is it soft like Pine and not good to burn in a fire place or a good hard wood like Maple and Oak ?

The tree is down from a storm in my bro in laws back yard and he needs it cut up. He was going to have a tree company do it but if its burnable, we will cut it up and deal with the brush. Not sure of its size though .....
We usually cut our fire wood a season ahead of time Molson so its good and dry for next year.
Before you cut it up, call some local furniture makers. Some will pay good money for the tree and will come and remove it in large pieces for you. If the pieces are too short, they're of no value. Sell the Walnut tree and use to cash to purchase something more burn-worthy.
