Isn't that way too much DE? The 60sqft states 7.5 pounds. So I would think you should use 4.5 pounds after a breakdown and only 80% of that after only a backwash.
Just this past weekend I did some repairs to 2 grids in my Hayward 4820 filter. I had some small tears (1.5-2" long slits) and I stitched it together with some fishing line. I then applied some hot glue over it and put it all together. It's been 3 days and it seems like it's holding fine. I had DE blown back into the pool and that stopped.
Not sure about the long term longevity though. It seems that the mesh became somewhat brittle, but at least it should last me till the end of the season.
