Forgive my ignorance on here - and thank you for your help and patience- We had the pool installed October 2012 and we are really just learning how to care for it now as we go along. So I will understand those of you who slap your foreheads when I ask:
1. - how do I know if I need to clean the cell in a SWG (we haven't cleaned it yet )
2. - how do I get to it?
I am asking this because last year we ran our SWG at 10 percent and sometimes that was creating too high of a FC level. This year I moved it up to 50% and I am still dropping a gallon of bleach in every 4 days just to keep the FC at 3.
I know the drop in FC could be because of something growing in there even though the pool is clear.
I also know that it could be just going because of the sun and low CYA
But I also recently learned that my SWG cell is supposed to be soaked in acid every 3 months or so.
(You can shake head in disgust now)
My salt numbers on Sunday were 2700 and I added 70 pounds of salt to make sure the SWG had what it needs.
My pool numbers tonight without adding any bleach since Saturday night:
FC 3 CC .5 or less PH 7.6- 7.8 TA 90 CYA 40 (repeated the test several times) CH 80 Salt 3400 (SWG says it is now too high - but I hear rain is on the way tomorrow and the pool could use a little water)
Memorial Day weekend the CYA was 60 - but we had a number of heavy rains and I drained a few inches a couple of times. Is it possible to drop like that?
I plan to add stabilizer to raise CYA but I am afraid because of the horror stories I have read on here about people with really high CYA who have to drain their pools. Pool Math says that I should add 92 oz of stabilizer to bring CYA up to 70. I am a little nervous to do that much - especially because I overdid the salt when I followed the rec of Pool Math
I am considering following the directions for adding borates to help stabilize the numbers once I get this all balanced
What do you think?
