Sand Filter

I have to change the sand filter,
First, when I check the sand that I have it look like the attached file, I am not sure it is glass or mixed with glass, any identification would be helpful.

Second I have the option between the Aqua Quartz and the natural stone , the question which one is better for filtration

I would like to back up a step and ask why you are changing a sand filter?

What Isaac and Dave are pointing out is that a sand filter almost never needs to have the filter media changed. "Pool professionals" may tell you that it needs to be changed every 3 5 years, but generally that is only to increase their profit margins.

THIS THREAD will explain a sand filter and how to "deep clean" it.

On another note, can you include a more precise location in your profile? "qc" doesn't let readers know much. Many times answers to questions are a little different depending on different climates.
