Hi All!
I am new to posting, but have utilized the info on this site for 3 years. Thank you for all the great info/advice I have received over the years!!
I have an above ground 30 round, 4 feet deep pool. I opened 3 weeks ago with debris in the bottom because our cover tore a few weeks before opening, but water wasn't green. When we opened, Chlorine zero, CYA below 30, ph 7.4. We got all the debris out and water looked clear. I added 2 lbs of CYA and started SLAMing, but I backwashed 48 hours after I added the CYA (container said I could, but I later read on the site I should have waited a week!). I added 2 more lbs of CYA a week after opening and have kept FC over 14 (most of the time in the 20s) the whole time, but I still can't pass a OCLT or a CC below .5 when I test in the AM. I have had a CC of less than .5 when I test in the afternoon, but when I test first thing in the morning it's always at least 1.0. I tested my CYA again last weekend and it was only reading 30, so I have added 4 lbs of dichlor (63% dichlor per lb, not 99%).
I don't understand what's going on because if the CYA is 35-40, and I have kept the FC level well above the recommend SLAM level, why hasn't it killed anything in the pool?? Please help!!
