Pressure treated dowel in base of pool railing

Hello All,
Have you heard of using a pressure treated dowel in the base of a pool railing to prevent it from bending/collapsing when you tighten it into the fitting.

It sounds like a solid idea (pun intended).

I've got a 1.9" OD with .049" wall thickness stainless railing.

Looks like I'll need 1 13/16 dowel.

Any thoughts or comments. Thanks in advance.
