Is this a correct D.E. calculation?

"Filter square footage divided by 5 equals number of scoops or pound coffee cans of D.E. to skimmer"
Got this online...
So my really old big D.E. filter says 72 SQ. FT.

72 / 5 = 14.4
I only put 5 pounds after I hosed down grids(yuk!)

Should I add more? 14.4 pounds seems like a lot...

if it matters- whisper flow, 30k/spa

You got a make and model on that filter?

I just looked at two different DE filters and an 80 ft² takes 8 lbs of DE and a 72 ft² takes 11 lbs, so I don't think your rule of thumb is very accurate. However since a 1 lb coffee can holds about 1/2 lb of DE I'd say you're in the ballpark. I might add another couple of lbs since you broke it apart and cleaned it.
