My Hayward pump bearings started whining on me a few days ago so I ordered some replacements. Ultimately, I broke my motor as you can see in the pictures. I suspect that the seal was pinched when the motor was assembled at the factory, which allowed it to leak onto the bearings and corrode everything. Am I correct in thinking that the mess should not have been there? Was this likely caused by the pinched seal (can be seen in one of the pictures) or would this have been due to me letting the balance get out of whack? I would imagine that the chemicals would have nothing to do with this as it should have been try in there.
Anyway, in the process of getting the bearings removed, I caused even more damage and no longer wish to try and use this pump motor. Any suggestions on a two speed motor that will work with my pump?
Edit: I'm thinking this motor (http://www.amazon.com/Hayward-SPX1607Z2 ... m_sbs_lg_5) and this seal replacement kit (http://www.amazon.com/Hayward-SPX1600TR ... _lg_text_z). The impeller looks good and clean, as well as the bigger plastic parts.
