DIY inground in Ohio

I went with rigid because I have sand soils and termites in the area. They're my own personal team of stump grinders. When they go hunting for a new place to eat, they tunnel through the ground. If they come to flex PVC, they just keep right on chewing because they can. They can't eat through rigid.

Rigid costs less but there sure are a lot of joints to be made. On a liner pool without too many features it isn't too bad, unlike a pool with a spa and cleaning jets.

There is the added bonus of getting to sniff all that primer and glue, plus that awesome purple highlighting of your fingernails.

I worried too much about flex, from termites to the flex being crimped or crushed during backfill. rigid in my opinion is as easy as flex, the only time connections get difficult is when you are coming to the end of a closed loop and it has to meet up perfectly! I did mine all rigid 2", every corner was done with 2 45's rather than 1 90. I was very happy how it came out and I am not a plumber.

I worried about the flex too. My pool guru who is helping says flex all the way. He's been doing it got 20+ years. Hard on the wallet $110 per 100' roll. I used 6 rolls. Being a plumber I can appreciate less fittings to worry about.
I elbowed down with rigid then switched to flex. The flex is resting on #8 pea gravel above the collar.

My concrete buddy is coming by tomorrow to prep for a possible Friday pour.

My electrician buddy is stopping over as well to heat everything up.

If the weather holds we will start vermic tomorrow too. [attachment=0:29d100j6]ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375914929.952649.jpg[/attachment:29d100j6]
If it rains we'll be doing it Saturday and Sunday.

Glad to see everyone is getting their DIY's finished. Judging from the pictures, I'd say you don't have to worry about termites in your soil.

Knock on wood, I don't know what they even look like! Yeah, I think the termite issue may be for people further south with sandy soil. My flex is ran deep and it is basically 4" of topsoil and the rest good ol' Ohio clay.

Picked up a mixer today - Vermic Sat and Sunday! Pouring slab monday. Should be installing liner and filling Tuesday/Wed. :whoot:

I back filled my entire overdig with #8 gravel. Pea gravel. My trench from the pool to equipment is @3' deep where I bedded and covered the plbg with 8's before finishing the trench with clay.

I'm getting the flex (and everything else not in my kit) from Quality pool supply in Dublin Ohio. I'm buying thru my pool guru's acct. He calls it in and I pick it up and pay for it. It pays to know people.
