Wth was in my strainer basket???

I opened up the filter strainer after I drained and refilled the pool and I found what looks two big large chunks of plaster. No clue where they came from. I never removed the drain covers so it had to have been on that side of the plumbing. Any thoughts? Did they just chip off from the plaster inside the main drain?

Do they smell like anything other than concrete? I have seen some of the chemicals we add to our pools become hard chunks.

How old is the pool? Did the builder simply sweep them into the drain and put the cover over them?

There is no smell to them. They are very brittle now that they are dry. I would not have put it past my pool builder to have swept it into the drain. They were horrible and that's why they got shut down
