Skimmer plug removal

Trying to remove the skimmer plug and am having difficulty. Any idea on what tool I could use to remove it? The pool company the closed the pool used a PVC pipe and I tried 1 1/4 but the walls are too thin and bend when I twist and 1 1/2 is too big.

So that entire assembly won't come out? That looks like a non-threaded cap that may have been glued on a fitting that should have a threaded end going into the hole. Totally guessing here - hard to tell from pic.

I will grab a hold of the PVC pipe and not the plug and see what happens.

Grabbed the PVC assembly and it will not budge. I was a little slimy though. I will have to call the pool company to have them come out. I need to have them come out and fix the weir because it sticks and I can't figure out to remove it too.
