A few days ago, my wife heard the pump running, then she turned it off to clean the skimmer, and when she turned it back on, it just hummed. it sounds like it does when the impeller is stuck, but my wife was able to turn the impeller freely. the motor housing gets very hot.
i'm thinking it's one of two things: either the motor is shot, or one of the legs is not energized (it's a 240V pump). the part of this that throws me is that the impeller turns freely... if it were the bearings or the motor was fused, then i would expect the impeller to be stuck as well. i suppose the motor could can burned out a winding, or maybe one of the leads is loose.
anyway, i'm going to tackle this soon, but wandered if anyone had some thoughts based on the above.
Thanks!
