I am of the understanding from reading on this forum that the average life of a swg cell is around 5 years. I'm here to write an obituary for my original pool pilot DIG-220 cell which was installed April of 2005. making it a whopping 7.5 years. I am pleased with it's performance. Replacement cost was in the $550 range which has risen from the $350 I was thinking it cost to replace.
The conditions of my indoor pool and lower average PH of 7.5 have made this practically maintenance free. I have never had to clean scale because there was never any to speak of. I presume it would get some benefit from the drop in PH while decreasing the total alkalinity by gassing off.
