Finally opened the pool, and couple weeks later than usual due to the weather.

We found this funky slimy snot stuff. It seemed to be growing on tiny debris that didn’t get cleaned out. I skimmed as much as I could, and dumped into the pool to treat everything together for opening.

Just SLAMming it. What is this stuff called, and why do you think it started growing in the spa? And is SLAMming the appropriate step?

Yes, SLAMing is the appropriate solution to kill whatever that stuff is (possibly white water mold?? not sure). Regardless, it appears to be organic so a SLAM will kill it. As for why it's in the spa... I'm guessing by this you are implying it is not also in your pool. My best guess is that your spa is a smaller body of water so will likely warm up in the sun faster than your pool. The warmer temperature makes it easier for things to grow combined with low chlorine from being closed for the winter makes for what you see. Whatever the reason, a SLAM is your answer. If you want guidance through the SLAM procedure, post up your test results and I can help you :)
