I have a vinyl pool with a cracked return inlet faceplate. I want to replace it now that it is warm. It has 4 screws so it looks simple. My question is if I take the screws off and the plate, will water start gushing under the liner?
Nope, I've done it several times. Obviously, turn the pump off. Take the ring off slowly and keep some hand pressure on the vinyl behind the removed ring. There is (normally) a black oring or ridge of plastic on the ring and the old faceplate will have pushed the vinyl into the matching groove a bit. There shouldn't be any problems.
Another option is to wait and do it when (if) you drain down for winter...
