Do I need to worry about CH with a vinyl liner?

Hi everyone,

Newbie to the forum and to owning a pool. I have a question on CH. I see in the Pool School under ABCs of Chemistry that CH doesn't matter for a vinyl pool, but then under the Recommended Levels thread, it recommends 50-300. My pool store gave me some "CH raiser" as part of the start up kit. Wondering if I need to bother. Is it bad to have it too low? (and no I haven't tested the level yet, the pool store did though, but I didn't get the number).

Love the forum!

Thanks,
Rob

The minimum of 50 Calcium is to protect any heaters that may be plumbed into the pool. It is good to have some calcium in the water even with a vinyl liner. Most water has some calcium in it. Go ahead and test your water and if you have at least 50 ppm calcium you don't need to worry about it.
