CC Levels when testing

We are using the TF-100 kit for all of our testing. Our pool is FULL of algae and who knows what else and we are currently in the process of shocking. When testing for CC we are only getting a result of .5, it only takes one drop to turn our test water clear. That doesn't seem right to us. We are new to this, we just got out kit on Saturday. Are we missing something?
Thanks,
Melissa

Should we expect CC levels above .5?
Not necessarily. Though shocking algae with chlorine often produces CC, it does not have to. You can look at CC is just one of several reasons one might need to shock or to know when shocking already underway can be stopped. If you have an overnight chlorine loss >= 1 ppm or you have CC > 0.5 or you have visible algae or cloudiness, then you aren't done shocking.
