Hayward Series H Release valve problem

I noticed a small drip coming from the release valve on my heater earlier in the week. I fiddled with it a bit and realized that I was not going to fix the leak. Tonight I go to start the heater/spa for the first time since and water gushed from the release value at an alarming rate. What did I do and can I fix/reset it?

Sounds like the relief valve failed. A replacement is the only fix.
