The manual for my Sta-Rite System 2 DE filter cautions against using "pipe compounds." It recommends the use of the following products to seal threaded connections:
I realize that regular old pipe compound like Oatey's grey "Pipe Joint Compound" http://www.oatey.com/Plumber/Shared/Pro ... pound.html is a no-no since it's not safe for plastic pipe.
I'm wondering if Oatey's Great White with PTFE is ok to use. I have a bunch left over from another project.

"For use with water, steam, caustics or dilute acid lines of PVC, CPVC, ABS, cycolac, polypropylene, iron, steel or copper."
Great White is rated for up to 10,000 PSI on liquids from -50F to 500F and is non-toxic and rated for potable water.
I'd be using it on the threaded NPT connections of my filter and my Pentair Dynamo pump.
