Most cost effective cleaner for existing in ground pool

Hello my parents have a in-ground pool 9 feet in the deep end that is about 16 years old and my dad is starting to have some back issues so he is contemplating getting an automatic pool cleaner. Can anyone or everyone recommend a good cost effective one? He is not plumbed for the extra jet so it needs to be on that will be powered by suction from the skimmer. I have the purple barracuda for my above ground round and that seems to work good, will that work in an in-ground?

    Thanks for the help
