I received my TF-100 kit last night so this morning I did the chlorine/PH test before I came to work. Water temp 79. The PH looked to be about 7.2 but the chlorine was not even close to the yellow CL/BR...it was "orange"! So what does that mean?? I will take a water sample to the pool store tomorrow for the first time on our new pool and post the numbers but what does Orange mean??
Thanks in advance!!
Harry

Saturday>>>I used the kit and here are the numbers. BTW..the CL/BR was still Orange.

FC-30
CC-0
TC-30
Ph-6.5
T/A-80
CYA- 60-70?
TEMP-82°

Thanks for all the advice so far!! I have much to learn!
I did not add the weekly chemicals this past weekend...I will do so this evening. Ph was a little low...I'll do it again today.

Orange on the OTO chlorine test usually means high chlorine. You should use the FAS/DPD (drops and powder) chlorine test for an accurate reading. No need to take to pool store.

Also, if your chlorine level is high enough,it can make the pH reading inaccurate.

What type of chlorine source do you use? (SWG, liquid, pucks, etc.)

It is the ProTeam 1" tabs. I fill (once a week) the Pentair Rainbow Automatic 320 which hold a little under 100 tads.
It almost uses that in a week. The setting on the feeder is set on "2". I was thinking it may be too much??
Thanks..

Hi Harry

The stabilized trichlor tabs that you are using are a real convenience, but they will raise your CYA levels pretty quickly. My pool was renovated this summer, just about the same time I found this site. I started out using trichlor pucks in my chlorinator to get the CYA up to around 30 ppm. In less than 2 months my CYA was where I wanted it, and no other stabilizer was used, or added since. High CYA levels require higher levels of chlorine to sanitize the pool. The info I've gathered from this site has been a Godsend. There are some very smart folks here who have posted lots of info about CYA. Check out the "Testing the Water" forum, or maybe someone will respond with better info. Wish I could explain it all, but I am just learning too.
