I have decided to start the process meeting with pool contractors to get quotes for a pool. Looking at a 15 x 30 gunite pool with the overall depth of 4 ft and a 5 ft tanning ledge. Ran into one concern with the first contractor over my request for a saltwater pool. He stated that on other jobs he had seen items around the pool rust. Others that I know with saltwater pools never brought up this issue. Still, have two more contractors to meet with. Might add another contractor to meet with.

I know very little about pool systems and construction, trying to read all I can on this forum.

Once you get more quotes, you will quickly learn that builders have zero interest in your pool running efficiently and easy. Most are luddites, sticking to the old weekly shocking and use of pucks. Some took courses on how to install ozone systems, with no benefit besides making your wallet lighter. Do your due diligence, SWCG are the way to go for ease of chlorination, but plain ole bleach can accomplish the same thing.

I have picked my contractor and he uses Jandy equipment. This is all I have from him for now:
2 hp jandy pump
460 jandy cartridge
Jandy PDA 4 computer (we are upgrading this to IQ20-RS Aqualink)
Jandy aquapure salt system

I have a neighbor that services pool systems, along with sub-work with pool contractors, he says that Jandy is a good product, but suggest I go with a Hayward T-Cell-9 salt chlorination system. As it is a better more reliable cell. Contractor says that Jandy is better. I'm totally confused on this one.

Since it appears you are going automated you should stick with Jandy Equipment. Jandy, Hayward and Pentair all make good equipment and you will find people who prefer each brand (Think Ford Vs. Chevy. Vs. Dodge). I agonized over equipment as my builder uses Jandy, but most in this area prefer Pentair. After a lot of research, it really isn't a big deal. I would stick with your contractor's recommendation.
