Do you know who could sell & ship this?

    Hi,

I found that one of our "pump nets" is damaged. Do you know where could I find one of this?

It would be my first replacement for one of this, so don't know what should I take in consideration to find
the proper size, dimensions of the "net"? (the one that goes beside the pump)

    Picture below..

    Many thanks

PS: would be good to know where could I get this shipped to an address in the States or Mexico.

    HT9,

It is usually called a "pump strainer basket" or just "pump basket". If you can locate the brand and model # on your pump, you should be able to go to that manufacturer's website and order the basket. They should be able to ship directly to you.

I don't recognize the model but perhaps one of our members that sees a lot of pools will be able to identify it right away.

Wow, an old acorn grinder pump. Many pool stores still have them. It's an old Anthony pump, build like a tank, may never die. Google the following: 59200107

Not sure if the number is for the skimmer or pump basket...or Scott had a different item in mind, but when I googled 'Anthony pump parts' I got several hits for replacement pump baskets. It's great to have professionals on this forum who can recognize parts manufactured before WWII.

If that's the right pump, check out the following links (the company ships to Mexico):

Its the pump basket for the Anthony pump. The bronze cast units that will eat an acorn without a fuss.

Might check his seal set too for leaking. That picture is a melted basket meaning the pump ran dry for some time.

    Yes, indeed.

HardTrance9, did this twisted piece of plastic come from one of the pools you manage? Scott advises checking under the pump for leaks... Start the pump and let it run for short while before checking. Hopefully this unit is not from the MS pool; that's all you need...algae and a bad pump!

Also note that the suction and exhaust sides of the pump's plumbing may have warped due to the heat also.

The question you need to consider is what caused it to lose prime. An air leak on the suction side is the usual culprit since a pump will suck in air before water. The pump ran, no new water came in, the existing water got HOT, turned to steam, evaporated, and melted the basket.

Re: Do you know who could sell & ship this?

Dave, Scott and Polyvue... many thanks!

    - Now I know the correct name. Perfect!
    - Yes, this is one pump basket from one of the pools I manage. It was like that when we started (about 1 month ago)
    - Don't know the cause, but already asked the owner to have his feedback (he is not in town)
    - Yes, this pump basket is from the MS algae pool (ooops)
    - No, I haven't spot any leaks at all from the pump. What Scott suggested about the pump running dry seems to fit, but will confirm this later on with the owner.
    - Many thanks for the suggestions on where to get the replacement (will get model and pump #)
    - Amazing how, like Polyvue suggested, just by a quick "eye" Scott could tell so fast about the basket (thanks again!)

Going to check now the pump model and no. and also see the progress on the shocking... at MS.

    Thanks

Ok, so here are the pump numbers:

    Pump: STA RITE
    Model: JWPA5EL-2A
    Serial: 1F020

Also has another sticker that says:

    A.O. Smith
    Model: S48B74A03
    Horse power: 1
    RPM's: 3450

Was looking here, but not sure which of the StaRite could be?

    Is this the pump?

That is an above ground pump. Wouldn't surprise me though if the motor fits the bronze Anthony pump.

Re: Do you know who could sell & ship this?

This is weird because both the Sta-Rite and A.O. Smith part numbers show this as being a 48 frame motor. The motor tag however appears to say 56 frame. If this is a 48 frame motor is should be used on an above ground pool or at the very least a situation where an in-ground pool is higher than the equipment (although this still wouldn't be ideal).

As you may already know a 48 frame motor is made to be gravity fed (i.e. an above ground pool sending water down to the pump) while a 56 frame motor is made to pool water out of the pool (i.e. an in-ground pool with equipment above the grade of the pool). The 48 frame motors are NOT self-priming. I'm assuming that the pump lost prime because it is a 48 frame installed on an in-ground pool. So this problem will probably just happen again and again eventually causing the housing of the pump/impeller to also melt. It would be best to change this over to a 56 frame motor/pump.

It looks to be a Sta-Rite C108-33P basket. If you can't find these anywhere I have a shelf full of them in the warehouse. It is not something that we usually sell online but I could ship one/some to you if you need them.

Wow, BIG delay on this follow up. So many things going up, sorry.

Yes that is the pump, find picture attached taken a couple of months ago. Was looking for the basket IN SO MANY PLACES and they just don't have the right size in this area.

Still looking where to find it... tried at http://www.poolplaza.com/ but seems they don't have it.

Tried at http://www.poolcenter.com/parts_pumps_starite_jwpa.htm where the cost of item 15 is $5.05 USD

Tried at http://www.poolcenter.com/parts_pumps_anthony_pools.htm where the cost of item 16 is $17.48 USD for the same product?

Any idea on why the price the difference?

Just wondering if this would fit:

I should have it in stock, but I'm not sure how much it would cost to ship it to you.

Re: Do you know who could sell & ship this?

Looks like a JWP series Sta-Rite above ground pump.

Pentair part number for the basket is C108-33P

The other parts appear to be 3rd party products.
