need help

i found this in my return when i opened the pool this year...anyone have any idea what it is?

the pool is a 25000 gallon in-ground, 5 years old. 3.5' in the shallow end, 9' in the deep end.

who ever built it (not me) plumbed all 3 returns together.... 1 line from the filter into the ground with a connection somewhere underground

Im concerned its some cheap pipe joint thats coming apart...

AAA battery in the photo is just for size reference, not from in the line

That looks like some sort of screw on locking ring collar type thing to me is my best guess. What do you mean you found it in your "return"? Exactly where? Welcome.

it was stuck coming out of the return eyeball... it was in the one that is furthest from the pump.

Did you check the bottom of the pump basket? See if there’s any missing plastic on the basket. Those pieces look like they’ve been hit by the impeller.

they are not part of the basket (its black plastic) , but i didnt pull the pump apart to see if its from there.

solved!! so i took the de cartridge out to clean in and low and behold one of the plastic grates inside the fabric had broken and started to come apart... thats what the debris in the line was from
