Suction side air leak? Or diverter?

I think I have a suction side air leak.

I have air in the basket of my Super Pump and low flow. Basket has large visible bubbles within a minute or two of starting the pump and is half empty within 15-20 minutes. I've checked all the usual culprits with incense, water, and cellphane with no result. All of this was while the diverter was in filter mode. I can't find the leak yet.

HOWEVER....

When I slide the diverter over and do a backwash, I have zero problems on the suction side. Basket is completely full of water, no air even after a few minutes.

Bad diverter? Doesn't make sense but.... ????

Might be worthy to mention that I just replaced the pool pump's motor. I was going to replace the seals as well, but Amazon sent me the wrong seals. Had to reuse the old ones for now.

1. Did you have this issue before replacing the pump motor?
2. What brand/model filter do you have?
3. When you say diverter, do you mean a multiport valve, push-pull valve or something else?

1. Yes. We had it last year but it stopped and now has re-emerged.

2. Hayward Superpump with 1HP century motor.

3 I think it's a multiport valve. I'll check for the make and model when I get home.

Found it! Lathered shaving cream all over it and a pinhole appeared near one of the seals. Took it apart, reteflontaped it, lube, and retighten. No bubbles!
