Can I filter a pool that is not full?

My water level is below the skimmer and vacuum inlets.
I have my valves set to only draw from the main drain.
Assuming there are no leaks that would cause the pump to
suck air in, can my filter run with the level this low?
I know that's not the recommended situation, but I am
wondering if it can be done.

Maybe ... depends if you can get the pump primed.

BTW, your filter does not run, it just filters. The pump is what runs and moves the water

Yes it can if you get water to the pump.
