Getting a new roof and received a quote from a solar company to remove and remount my pool solar panels. Talk about sticker shock! One of their selling points was that they would install hurricane straps when remounting.
Naturally, a DIY solution came to mind. It seems to me that as long as I mark where the rafters are, I can easily remount my solar panel system. I'm not designing anything, just re-screwing, re-gluing PVC, etc. It's a pretty simple system (i.e. no level changes) - just 5 panels attached in a series. I plan on taking lots of pictures before I begin the process.
Any idea where I'd be able to find Fafco (the solar panel company) fasteners that are hurricane rated? I wonder if they even exist and that these "hurricane straps" are in-house creations.
Any advice / warnings / feedback about DIY remount in Florida?
Thanks!!!
