Skimmer question about openings in bottom of skimmers

Hello,
i saw some posts from 2008 regarding the 2 holes in the bottom of the skimmers

i have two skimmers.

1 (near the deep end) has two openings in the bottom which i assume circulates water

the 2nd near the shallow end has one opening for water flow but the other hole is filled with sand.
is this just a plug because the second pipe opening is unused? didnt quite understand the earlier forum posts

Do you also have a floor drain?
How many suction lines do you have in front of the pump?

There are multiple ways this could be plumbed together.

I am guessing the hole with sand is just plugged and dirt has settled in it.

two floor drains.

two pumps
1 pump has 'return' pipes come up from ground, connected to cutoff valves and then Tee into one pipe before flowing into pump filter basket (hayward super pump 1-1/2HP)
2nd pump , sheer descent waterfall, has one return pipe

We call those suction pipes
How many suction pipes are in front of the main pump?

Do you know where the waterfall pump is pulling in water?
