FNS Plus filter disassembly/assembly - help!

I just took apart my Pentair FNS Plus 48 to replace an o-ring and put in new grids. In doing so, I noticed something odd - it looks like the entire grid assembly is suspended in the air above the bottom floor of the filter case by the assembly's connection to the standpipe (at the assembly's manifold).

Is this normal? It almost looks like there should be some sort of support bracket between the floor of the filter case and the bottom of the filter assembly spiderweb. In other words, the filter assembly is too short to connect to both the standpipe at the assembly's top and also make contact with the floor of the filter case.

Any thoughts? This is my first time disassembling/assembling the filter and I'm worried that the previous owner may have broken a part and not replaced it. Thanks for any help!
