    Cloudy, milky pool- FRUSTRATED!!!!!

In general to clarify the water from Milky to Clear in any pool the following things need to happen: 1. There should be no active algae bloom. 2. The Water chemistry must be balanced for the type of pool you have. 3. The Pump and the filter need to run constantly till the water is clear. The...

    Flock or Drain???

Don't give up without a fight.. a turnaround is possible without putting too much money into it. Here's what I suggest.. 1. Use a leaf net to take out all the crud you can. Line the leaf net with some cheesecloth to take some more out. 2. Read the stickies and use the directions is Jasons...

Newbie that had green pit with frogs!

Don't worry.. green to clean takes just about a week if you are religious enough in your chlorine numbers... most of us have been there one time or the other and pulled through in about 7 days..

    New Guy! First Pool! O'MY!!!

Welcome to TFP... Browse around and read the stickies at a minimum. If you just added fresh water without any chemicals at all you will need the following: 1. CYA (To get some stabilizer for preventing rapid Cl loss) 2. Baking Soda (To raise TA) 3. Bleach (Chlorine Source). for exact...

TF-100 arrived and the results are in. Help

I would sugget adding some liquid Chlorine to the water specially to the SPA if you are still using it. It will help keep the water sanitised and prevent the nasties from getting a hold.

new here - and some questions

If your FC is dropping overnight the you are certainly battling some sort of an Algae or there are a lot of organics getting into your pool. If you see another overnight drop I suggest you shock the pool to a reccomended FC level as suggested by the pool calculator in Jasons signature above and...

    how is my pool?

FC/TC of 4.0 is not very high. However if want ot bring it down a bit reduce the output of your SWCG. For pH continue adding Muriatic Acid to lower it. It is fairly common for the pH to go up in a new build as the surface cures.

We closed on the house and now I am a pool owner....

There are always a few bad apples out there.. Luckily my sellers were great. They dilligently explained to me how they maintained and tested the pool. What all the equipment was meant for etc. etc. From the info they gave me, my own research and TFP I gathered that they were heavily "Pool...

First Trip to the Pool Store

Drain.. Drain.. Drain... 1/2 to 2/3rd of the water... at least once if you have a SWCG or twice if you don't. From your post it didn't seem like you had a SWCG so drin it twice if possible to get the CYA to the reccomended value. Your stabiliser (CYA) reading is way too high (prolonged Tablet...

Well if the FC holds overnight and water looks clear it might be OK to swim!! The white "mystery" stuff needs to be tackled next. To me it seems either something is getting into the pool from the outside or it is some deposit/corrosion from your liner. see if you can take a picture of the...

With your numbers the recommended FC level is 4 to 8. One full 174oz jug will bring it up by about 6. So I would say go ahead and dump a full jug in there and check the level. Check it again tomorrow morning and report if there is a significant loss (> 1ppm) . What is the report on the "white...

new here - and some questions

Laurie, to raise pH you need soda ash not baking soda... although Baking Soda(Sodium Bicarbonate) will raise Alkalinity and the pH, Soda ash(Sodium Carbonate, sold as pH plus in walmart) is preffered as it is a cheaper and raises pH quickly.. borax can also be used but since it raises the...

The numbers are not that bad as they seem.. or what the pool store would tell you.. you have good CYA pH is easily controlled. Copper might be an issue but will actually help you in the short run as it is an algaecide. Follow Jason's reccomendation as below...

You guessed it right.. The gauge is broken. The pressure gauge is a good indicator of how clogged your filter is. But don't worry too much over it as you don't need to replace it for now. Get your water analysed and post the results here. you can use pH Plus or anything that has Sodium...

Laurie, the numbers and your problem don't match. I would rather wait for a pool store water check before doing anything. Question: Does the gauge on the filter go down to 0 if you shut down the pump ?

The numbers are FC 10 CC 0 Overnight FC drop is < 0.5 ppm. CYA 60 TA 140 pH 7.5 CH 330 temp 72 The water looks almost clear. I can see the drain in the deepest part (7.5 ft). Plan to drop pH and aereate again to get a better TA reading. What else can I do to improve the water clarity ?

Numbers post partial drain and refill...

Thanks for the advice. Will monitor the PM/AM FC levels closely over the next few days (it's a long weekend anyway!). If it starts loosing any more overninght then shock it else keep it on a maintenance dose and keep working on lowering the TA...!
