Leak Under Pump When Pump Turned Off

Does it only leak when it is off? Seems like some more sleuthing is in order - you've got to look closely and figure out where it's coming from before a fix can be suggested. Various seals in the pump could leak...but so can lots of other things!

Please do post a picture! It certainly could be bleeding through.

Above ground pool new install issues

Can you post a photo? Not being too familiar with aboveground pools, I'm having a hard time picturing what's happening.

    Pentair 160317 vs Hayward c1200?

Yes, you could just step up pipe diameters, assuming you have the room on your pad to cut/splice pipe to make it fit. But, what's the problem with your current filter? I doubt you'll see all that much difference in cleaning frequency between 120 and 150 square feet...doesn't seem worth the...

How much full sun needed to keep pool comfortable.

Do you own the property to the left? If so, you could take down some trees and that would help...but based on what Dan said you may want a heater either way. I guess it depends on what you consider "comfortable".

Cleaning an empty fiberglass wall and cement bottom pool

Welcome to TFP! What are you trying to get off the walls/floor?

    Seriously? Grrrrrrr.... Flooded pool...

Wow...from those numbers it looks like you almost got a complete water replacement. Glad your equipment is still working. Those are quite the pictures!

    Pavers?

I would do it! Pavers look much nicer, and the randomness of the look helps to hide things like any staining or weathering.

    Liner color

Diane, since you asked via PM, here are a couple pictures of mine. I believe it's quite a bit darker than the liners you are considering...mine is more a medium tan-gray rather than a straight sand color. The plaster is gray and the pebbles dominantly brownish. Sounds like if you are worried...

    Input on cracks

Can you post some pictures? there commonly is a gap there, and little plastic strips are used to cosmetically fill it. Missing grout isn't going to hurt anything, but you could fix it if it bothers you.

    Very rough uneven plaster

Yeah, the rough/chipped/pitted plaster won't hurt anything. I'd keep an eye on it for algae though; crevices like that make an ideal handhold for it. Ballpark $10k for a full replaster with tile...could be a bit more, could be a bit less, but it'll be somewhere around there.

    Pool/Spa-No Heater other problems/Considerations

Welcome to TFP! Pictures would help immensely. That will determine whether you need more than one pump. A heater will run maybe $3000? I think 5k to get it running properly is probably a reasonable guess.

Pool closer ran amuck with copper algecide

32 oz, do you know what % copper the algeacide is? If so we can figure out what the copper level is now, and predict if it's high enough to cause problems.

Is there such a thing as OB for fiberglass pool?

Agreed. I'm not even sure I would have a professional do it... :( There are much more forgiving ways to DIY/GC a pool.

    pH Testing

The K2006 should have a drop test for FC, where you put powder in the sample, swirl, and then add drops til the pink color disappears. The K2005 does have a pink color-matching FC test, is that what you're using?

Winter pool cover suggestions for In ground pool

Well, you have two main options: a safety cover (which requires drilling holes), and a tarp-style cover with weights holding it down. the tarps are cheaper but uglier and more difficult to install/uninstall and keep clean.

Liner installed over old jet - what to do?

I'd leave it as is for now...if the liner tears, then you'll just get a new one and clean up the old mess then. It seems like it would have been better just to remove the jet and install foam over it, but at this point you're kinda stuck.

Started SLAM and pool filter split

That should work too. Or, maybe a new spider gasket would prevent it from leaking?

Started SLAM and pool filter split

Do you have a multiport valve, or a push-pull? If you have a multiport you should set it to recirculate, then you can keep FC up and keep the water moving.

Found the leak! How to fix missing tile grout?

I'd just get a tube of polyurethane caulk in a matching-ish color and use that. It should look nice and keep water out. Yes, the dye test would just be some food coloring.

Found the leak! How to fix missing tile grout?

Did you do a dye test on that spot, to see if it's actually leaking? That would be very unusual....grout in itself is not waterproof, and unless the shell is cracked there's nowhere for that water to go anyway. How about the skimmer, could it be leaking there?

FACT OR URBAN LEGEND - dark liners

More anecdotal evidence; my pool, with a dark tan color pebble, is substantially warmer than our rental house (white diamondbrite) and the swim teacher's house (light tan pebble). I wouldn't have guessed the difference would be noticeable, but it is.

Could I possibly delay in opening pool?

I think you could leave it closed. It may be really nasty when you get back, but you wouldn't have to worry about anything going wrong with the equipment or anything.

New, proud owner of neglected 50 year old gunite pool

Well, first thing is to get those pumps working and get it open and really see what you're dealing with. There's nothing wrong with operating a pool with ugly plaster, a disintegrating deck, etc.

First post! Hello! (and a quick question)

Welcome to TFP! I would try to do the rectangle that goes left-right in your picture, then add the deep end to that. I bet you're pushing 40k gallons...looks like a nice big pool! You can get a pretty good estimate by seeing what effect adding chemicals has...so, for example, you might add 3...

New here Trying to decide on another Intex or go with a company

Many folks here have found a used above-ground pool on Craigslist and then paid someone to install it. You might try that...it may need a new liner, but would probably end up being much cheaper than a brand new pool!
