UPDATE -safe to swim? Worst Pool Store Ever!

Re: Worst Pool Store Ever! Just to give you some encouragement - in February my pool turned green because it was really hot and I was sick for 3 weeks, unable to care for it. It stayed dark green until early April when I could clean/open it. I got it to light green and then cloudy/blue within a...

    My New Pool

I don't think you have a cartridge filter, you have a DE filter, correct? You may or may not need to clean and/or add DE to it at certain points - I'll let someone with that knowledge speak up. I have a cartridge filter and I clean the four cartridges twice per year when everything is running...

    Newbee in need of help!

As far as the liner - I would think it will be pretty much impossible to keep water from getting behind the liner, and although I don't have experience with what that means, I can't imagine it's a good thing. It looks like more than just the liner came out - possibly the coping as well? If I...

Trouble Free Pool has made me into a POOL SNOB!!!

I know what you mean... We are getting ready to go to the beach and I am not looking forward to swimming in the pools at the resort where we stay. Last year I knew the water was "not right" but this year I know exactly HOW "not right" it is!

    Elk's 20 questions!

    3. I have chemical stains (from chlorine, muriatic acid, etc.) on the concrete around my pool. Some are my fault, many are not. Is there a good way to get rid of them, or do they just come with the territory? An example picture is attached Definitely try pressure washing. I just did my...

People Shocked When They Learn You Use Bleach

I went to the grocery store tonight and bought 8 182-oz. jugs and 2 96-oz. jugs (all I could fit in my cart!) - great sale on bleach this week. So I get to the checkout and the twenty-something cashier says, "Hmph. That's a lot of bleach." I replied, "Swimming pool." He looked at me...

Help - ready to make it a tennis court instead!!

Never fear, Jazzalto - my husband was wanting to fill ours in too, mentioned it several times over the last few years. It was beyond exasperating. But these fine folks will help you get that pool of yours clean and trouble free soon. Getting your test kit is the first step and you're on your...

    Help with frog invaders, please!

Just checking back in to let y'all know that bringing the chlorine level up to 8.0 has helped tremendously, so far - yesterday there were 1/2 as many in the skimmer, and this morning there were none. They're still around the pool at night, loudly, but at least they are not in it! Thanks...

    Help with frog invaders, please!

I just tested to see where I'm at: FC 7.0 CC 0 So - should I try to raise it to 8.5? Is it okay to keep it that high all the time? My CYA is around 45 so according to the chart my target is 5.5. Thanks!

    Help with frog invaders, please!

@duraleigh - I missed that part, I got so engrossed in your tale  I will up the chlorine 25% and see how long that keeps them away. I definitely noticed last year (when I was shocking all the time because I had no idea what I was doing) that they didn't like the higher chlorine levels...

    Help with frog invaders, please!

@StuartPool - Thanks for the suggestions. If raising the chlorine level doesn't work I will definitely try some of these. As far as I know these are all Gray Tree Frogs.

    Help with frog invaders, please!

@Bama Rambler - None shining directly on the pool - just a minor amount of ambient light from the back of our house (sun porch 10 feet from side of pool, but more often than not those lights are off at night) and the pool house which is about 12 feet from the deep end. It was pretty dark out...

    Help with frog invaders, please!

I don't know whether it was the all-day heavy rain we had yesterday or what, but the frogs came out in droves last night (20+ in/around pool, it was so loud I could barely stand to stay outside) and now there are at least 5 in each skimmer and one big daddy swimming around in the open water...

    New here and need help!

I'm back with a concern after having shocked the pool. Since I last posted I added CYA and shocked high enough, apparently, that having not added any chlorine since Tuesday night, it is just now coming down to 6.0. I had the DPD test so I could not test above 5 until yesterday when the FAS-DPD...

    New here and need help!

Thank you both for the welcome and for the assistance :) Got the CYA at Home Depot this morning and I now have a sock full of about 2 lb. tied in front of the deep end return. Sometimes it doesn't "flutter" and settles back to one side (so it is touching the vinyl/side of the pool) - will this...

    New here and need help!

Hi everyone, First, thank you in advance for your help. I found this forum 3 days ago and have been voraciously reading ever since! I wish I'd found you 3 years ago! A little backstory: We moved into this house August 2006, pool was built in 1989. Looked to be in pretty good shape...
