    Winterizing and the filter

I never remove mine. Just drain the water, put the valve to winterize and you'll be good.

Heat pump questions for an ABG pool

Thats the other issue. Whats warm to one person is ice cold to another. If my pool was 80 degrees this time of year, for us it may as well be 32! We like ours 88 or so this time of year. No way a heat pump does that in september in northen climes. If youl ike 75-78 degree water in september...

    Extreme disappointment!!!

How would you filter it unless you get it to percipitate out? You can try to do that, but it may or may not work and end up with a bigger mess. I've on occasion got a bit of iron to come out as a precipitate, but it's not very reliable. A sequesterant is the only way i know of to reliably take...

    Extreme disappointment!!!

Yuo have iron in the well water. Go to walmart or some place that sells HTH metal treatment and follow the instructions. That will sequester the metal and clear the water. In my experience, pool store tests for metals dont measure metal content lower than 1-2 ppm. Even iron at 0.5 ppm can turn...

Do I need a heater in indiana?

In New England, if we only swam when the air temps were 80+, our swim season might be a 1.5 months!

    Need Help With Electrical Requirements

Not really. You only need one circuit for a couple of convenience outlets. You have multiple outlets in your kitchen on the same GFI plug. Same thing, really. On one 20 amp circuit, you can run 20+ 100 watt light bulbs.

**UPDATE** - The pool has evaporated nearly completely.

Re: The pool has evaporated nearly completely. That's a leak, not evaporation. The pool was covered all winter. I don't see how wind could have done that much, nor low humidity.

Retaining wall and distance from pool

Even above ground pools in most places require a fence. Check the code in your area. Where I am, even an Intex pool requires a fence.

new pool plus instal, sunk 2 ft deep, costs??

A lot of what you do with it dpends on what kind of material it is. Clean fill to one personmay not be "clean" to a landscape dude or builder. My dirt when i dug my IG pool and retaining walls was full of busted up rock from blasting ledge up the hill from me. Lucky I knew a builder across town...

    Enormous pool heating costs

Yes, that is a total electric heater much liike one of those little plug in tea heaters or a cup of tea, but much bigger. No wonder your electric bill was really, really high. I dont think many people use those anymore to heat a pool. They are really not efficient. Now, in terms of what you...

    Enormous pool heating costs

Actually its just the opposite. Higher humidity actually makes it work more efficiently. All those COP ratings you see for heat pumps are based on 80 degree ambient temp and 80% humidity. So to me those COP ratings are a bit misleading, IMO. Most of the time, when a HP is needed and is...

    Enormous pool heating costs

Yep, I'll agree with that. Without your indoor pool (and thats basically what it is) your heat pump wouldnt work in the winter either. While that dome is interesting, it's not too practical in most areas as Sal said.

    Enormous pool heating costs

Key word is DOME. But, in the dead of winter, 80 degree water is really cold. Define as much heat as you would want. A high temp of 63 will put minimal heat in a pool. Again, it depends on the size. If it is 63 and raining, no way. It's the fastest way to put heat in a pool anywhere. How...

    Enormous pool heating costs

We really need more info as I outlined above. But to really heat a pool in the winter time, you need gas heat, period. A heat pump only works down to about 55 degrees. Even then, it wont heat the water to greater than 75 degrees or so, I dont care what the manual and company says. Maybe on a...

    Enormous pool heating costs

Yes, more detail. Specifics include: 1) type of fuel used for heater. Is it natural gas, propane, heat pump? 2) heater size is important for us to know (i.e. how many BTU's is it rated for)? 3) what temp do you like to heat to? 4) do/did you run the heater 24/7 or only during the day? 5) So...

DIY Riser for Wedding Cake Type Steps?

My 2 cents. Spend the $160 for the right stuff. They will last, and it will look good. Anything else probably would look a little "home made".

NEC 680 Requirements for a Pool in a Garage

That's going to be tough to pass if you get it inspected. 10 feet for the outlet, and any overhead light has to be 12 feet high, if I remember right. Out of curiosity, what kind of pool can you get in a gargage?

    Blasted leaks

How did all this wear occur on a 1 yo liner? Are you sure the company that provided the liner gave you a new one? That seems like it wouldnt happen, but I really cant see how a new liner could look like that.
