    Homemade wood heater

I’m trying to avoid buying a better pump but still want to add some outer coils to the barrel. I could possibly split the inside/outside to provide parallel paths and might could get up towards 4-5gpm that way. I have a friend who is a plumber so can get that split made pretty easily. My intake...

    Homemade wood heater

I’m actually pulling from around 2’ deep in the pool and returning hot to the skimmer to mix. The return eye is pointed as far down as I can get it.

    Homemade wood heater

That’s honestly a completely doable idea and would justify me spending more money on it since it would be double-duty. I also will be in the market soon for a new smoker???

    Homemade wood heater

All this social distance free time I had made me want to get the pool warmed up for cheap. After some youtubeing I made a heater out of a 55gal drum, copper coil, and my winter cover sump pump. I’m Getting about 20 degree rise at 3gpm and have calculated that I should get about 10 degrees if I...

    Wood fired heater

Anyone ever used a barrel and a coil to make a wood fired heater? I’m still on the hunt for a cheap way to get the water warmed up. I made a $35 solar setup yesterday that’s getting 6 degrees of temp rise but it’s way to small. Was thinking about getting a barrel and a coil and starting a fire...

    Homemade solar heater

So I got bored today and went to lowes and spent about $30 on materials and made a solar heater. Specs are 4’x4’ ply sheet with 150’ of 1/2” irrigation tubing coiled and a heavy duty shower curtain to cover it. Performance: 85 degree ambient air 136 degrees in the box 62 degree pool water 68...

    Early Closing?

So seems like an obvious question, but do you just continue to monitor chemical levels and temperature by partially removing the cover and then drain and close when it’s cold enough? And threat of water level dropping to a point over 2 weeks covered that the pump would run dry? I would cry...

    Round solar heater

Anyone have experience with the round solar heaters that are available online? My roof is on the opposite side of the pool from my pump so it’s not practical to plumb to the roof type solar heaters. Looking for a real review of the more compact round ones before pulling the trigger. Also saw a...

    Early Closing?

So my pH was trending down when I first got the pool but I added a fountain to keep the temperature in check and the aeration kept pH perfect so far. Can you explain why you say the pH would trend up left unchecked rather than down? Just wondering.

    Early Closing?

Thanks for those options!! I'm kinda digging the cover and let swg run if I can't find someone to check the skimmer for me...that sounds like a pretty solid solution.

    Early Closing?

So this is my first year with my pool and I've read teh section in pool school for closing and it mentions to wait for the water to drop below 60°. My problem is, we're heading out of country for vacation for the last 2 weeks in October and I plan to close before we leave rather than waiting...
