    recommend a filter please!

What model pump and filter do you have? With a small filter and larger pump, it's entirely possible your GPM flow from the pump exceeds your filter max, leading to channeling and poor filtering. If you suspect this is the case, you could put a valve on the return side of the filter to reduce...

    recommend a filter please!

Yes, I agree with Jason, one bigger filter versus 2 smaller ones. Add enough DE powder to your sand filter so that your pressure gauge shows a 1 psi increase. This puts a fine coat of DE on your sand which many claim promotes finer filtering. Did you just tell you it's fine or give you...

    recommend a filter please!

You seem convinced it's an undersized filter issue, and that you like sand. So buy a bigger one and try it? As for recommendations, stick with a well respected brand (pentair, hayward) and look for a multi-port valve for easy backwashing, etc. Size? Get the biggest one you can afford. You...

    PUMP RUN TIME

    18000/80gpm= 225 minutes to turn the pool over. 225/60= 3.75 hours per turnover, 7.5 for 2, 11.25 for 3.

    PUMP RUN TIME

Total gallons of pool divided by GPM flow rate divided by 60 gets you hours per turnover.

    removing water to lower cya

matt, are the levels you mentioned referring to SWG? Based on chem geeks FC target of 11.5% of CYA ppm, I get- 30 ppm CYA- 3.45 ppm FC 40 ppm CYA- 4.6 ppm FC 80 ppm CYA- 9.2 ppm FC Each having the same effective killing power, but the higher FC in the higher CYA having more staying power...

    removing water to lower cya

I figured the liner shrinking wouldn't be an issue if they left 1' in the shallow end as recommended, especially since they were gonna fill it right back up, nor would they need to remove that much water just to lower their CYA into the recommended range :)

That doesn't change much, does it? Dilluting water is dilluting water after all.
